Barcelona will wear their new ‘Senyera’ kit for the first time in Sunday’s LaLiga game against Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano.
The design, which features the colours of the Catalan national flag, was launched during the recent international break and will be worn by both the men’s and women’s teams in select fixtures this season.
The Spanish champions already had three strips for 2019-20, including a yellow away shirt, but the club announced this new version amid a period of political tension in the region, after nine Catalan separatist leaders were handed long jail sentences in October.
"With the tagline 'Ho portem dins' (It's deep within us), FC Barcelona is presenting a new kit for this season that features the Catalan flag, the senyera, in honour of the club’s roots and history," Barca said on their website when the kit was launched in November.
"Over 120 years the club has grown as an entity that is open to the world, and which views sport as a phenomenon that can build bridges between people. However, this has not meant losing its sense of Catalan identity, culture and values."
