Barcelona 'joke' over Ousmane Dembele transfer to Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp is famously a fan of Ousmane Dembele and reports from Spain suggest that Barcelona are ready to offload the winger.

Back in 2018 when speculation linking Nabil Fekir with a move to Liverpool was reaching a fever pitch – he would get as far as far down the line as posing for photographs in the Reds kit before Anfield chiefs pulled the plug on the deal – Klopp was wading his way through questions about the Lyon playmaker when Dembele's name cropped up.

Klopp declared: “Is he on the market? Now I'm interested.”

Two years on it seems that Dembele, 22, will at last be made available by the Catalan giants.

An article in ASvia Sport Witness – claims that such is the appetite for a sale at Barcelona that it’s even a topic of humour with club executives.

An unnamed official is said to have recently jokingly asked a club doctor when Dembele would be fit again, so that he can be placed on the transfer market.

The club have been disappointed with the player’s return since they fought so hard to sign him from Borussia Dortmund following Neymar's exit to Paris St Germain in 2017.

At the time several clubs were interested, including some from the Premier League, and Barca had to part with more than €100m to get the signing over the line.

Dembele, whose asking price is said to be around €80million, is believed to be keen on a move to England with Liverpool's Premier League rivals Arsenal also supposedly in the hunt.
