Barcelona join transfer race for Man City defender Angelino after impressive RB Leipzig loan

Barcelona have joined RB Leipzig in the race for Angelino but Manchester City are holding out for €30m.

The 23-year-old returned to the Etihad on a permanent deal last summer when the Blues exercised their £5.3m buyback clause, but was unable to hold down a regular place in the team.

However, he has been rejuvenated by a loan move at the end of the January transfer window that saw him move to RB Leipzig and impress as they reached the Champions League semi-finals.

While the Bundesliga club are still hopeful of turning it in to a permanent deal, it is understood that the clause they had allowing them to purchase the player for €30m expired at the end of the loan.

Their interest may not have ended with the clause but any attempt from Leipzig to lower the price may be scuppered by Barcelona. Ronald Koeman has identified Angelino and that interest has been made known to City, who expect a similar price if they are to sell the left-back.

Barcelona are also interested in signing Eric Garcia, who has a year left on his contract at the Etihad and has made it clear he will not sign a new deal. However, the Catalan club are nowhere near the valuation of over €30m that the Blues expect for one of the best young Spanish players of his generation.

City must also decide on their plans in defence for next season, with Angelino and Garcia two of a number of players whose futures remain uncertain.
