Barcelona issued legal action warning over Antoine Griezmann transfer by Atletico Madrid

Barcelona have been warned by Atletico Madrid that they will face legal action if its found that Antoine Griezmann signed a pre-contract agreement to move to Camp Nou back in March.

Griezmann announced in May that he would be ending his stay in the Spanish capital, but is still yet to depart - despite Atletico handing his No.7 shirt to new boy Joao Felix.

On July 1, Griezmann saw his release clause at the Wanda Metropolitano drop from £180million to £107million.

But Atletico Madrid chief executive Miguel Angel Gil said two weeks ago that he believed Griezmann had already agreed terms with Barcelona over a switch.

On Thursday Atletico president Enrique Cerezo was asked what would happen if it was proved that Griezmann had agreed to join Barca four months ago.

"The truth is I don’t know but if it is as you say and he had already signed then there will be consequences,” said Cerezo.

"It does not seem normal to me but I do not know if he has signed or not or if he is going to Barcelona or not.

"I suppose in a few days we will find out.”

Club officials continue to remain silent over the French international arriving in Catalunya.

However, with Barcelona also having been pushing for Neymar’s return, there is a big issue over how they intend on paying for the pair.

One suggestion had been that they may plead with Atletico to pay for Griezmann in instalments; but amid anger from Madrid, they will be forced to pay his £107million clause at La Liga’s offices in one go, potentially jeopardising their push for Neymar.

Combined, the two deals are with members split over signing one, the other, or both.

Barca vice president Jordi Mestre resigned earlier this week, with that issue reportedly prevalent in his decision.
