Barcelona in more financial trouble as Marcos Alonso transfer from Chelsea reported to FIFA

Barcelona could be set for more financial issues and transfer scrutiny after their move to sign former Chelsea star Marcos Alonso in the summer was reported to FIFA. The Spaniard spent a fruitful six years at Stamford Bridge winning numerous trophies before terminating his contract with the Blues in the summer allowing him to sign for Barcelona.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left the Spanish club to join Chelsea in a separate £10milllion deal. While no fee was transferred between Chelsea and Barca for Alonso, financial problems look set to occur. Spanish fourth division side Union Adarve, who Alonso represented as a youth player, are now claiming that they should have received £91,000 (€103,000) as part of the deal.

According to AS, Union Adarve have evidence of the two clubs previously negotiating for Alonso and the matter has now been reported to FIFA for fraud

Alonso has made 22 appearances in all competitions for Barcelona since his arrival scoring three goals in the process. His most recent strike came against Manchester United in the Europa League knockout play-off round as he headed beyond David de Gea from a corner.

United were able to turn the game on it's head following another goal for Marcus Rashford and an own goal from Jules Kounde. But Raphinha, who was on the verge of joining Chelsea last summer, equalised in the final 15 minutes of normal time to set up a mouth-watering second leg for next Thursday.

Financial difficulty is still prominent for Barcelona although domestic success has helped ease those concerns. Xavi was able to win his first trophy as Barcelona manager winning the Spanish Super Cup last month and they are currently eight points clear at the top of La Liga.

On the transfer front, Barcelona remain active and could be plotting a move for Manchester City star Ilkay Gundogan after meeting his representatives earlier in the week, as per Marca. That could open the door for Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Chelsea, to sign Frenkie de Jong, especially as his rift over money with the Barcelona board looks set to continue.

In the meantime, de Jong will remain teammates with Alonso and the latter will now likely join him in being the centrepiece of a financial dispute. Alonso was mostly developed in the Real Madrid academy but he did spend some time with Adarve and FIFA's established solidarity system means a small percentage of a transfer must go to the footballer's training clubs from when he was twelve years old - a fee Adarve claim they are yet to receive.
