Barcelona hero gives his verdict on Spurs January target Willian Jose amid shock transfer talk

Willian Jose's name has once again cropped up despite the January transfer window closing for business.

Making a name for himself at Real Sociedad in La Liga, the Brazilian frontman was linked with a switch to north London in wake of Harry Kane's hamstring injury.

The move never came to fruition and the 28-year-old instead remained in San Sebastian.

However, he may still find himself on the move over the coming days despite the fact we are now midway through February.

Jose Mourinho on Spurs' progress under him

Barcelona are currently having a bit of crisis upfront as Ousmane Dembele has now joined Luis Suarez on the sidelines for the rest of the season.

Although it isn't all that bad given they still have Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann available for selection, the Spanish giants are expected to be granted permission by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to sign an attacker outside of the transfer window after the recent injuries.

As Dembele is missing for more than five months, that is the minimum amount of time required in order for clubs to be allowed to make an emergency signing.

Barcelona will only be able to sign a player already registered with a club in Spain or someone who is without a club, thus explaining why the Sociedad frontman could still be on the move even though the window is shut until the summer.

Rivaldo lit up the Nou Camp during his time at Barcelona and he believes his fellow countryman could be an "interesting" signing for his former club if they make their move.

"Apparently, Barcelona have been trying to sign Willian José from Real Sociedad to strengthen the attack," the Brazilian told Betfair. "I know this player well because I played with him at São Paulo.

"At the time, he would have been about 19 or 20-years-old and was already showing sings of quality. He ended up proving it, moving to Europe and establishing himself as an interesting player at La Liga.

"Now aged 28, this could be the perfect moment for him to move to a bigger challenge at Barcelona.

"It would be totally different from playing for Real Sociedad, but sometimes playing at a club like Barcelona makes it easier to score goals more often. So yes, he could be an interesting signing for Barcelona."
