Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen contemplates Germany exit under Joachim Low

Barcelona star Marc-Andre ter Stegen is contemplating his international future under Joachim Low.

The stopper has been in outstanding form for his club during the past 12 months.

And he is in the running for the FIFPro World XI, after being named as one of the three best goalkeepers’ in the world by FIFA for his performances over the last year.

But he has been left frustrated after being benched during the international break.

Ter Stegen was overlooked by Germany boss Low, for Die Mannschaft’s Euro 2020 qualifiers - the 4-2 loss to Holland, and 2-0 win at Northern Ireland - with captain Manuel Neuer returning.

Ter Stegen deputised impressively for Neuer during 2017-18, with the Bayern Munich keeper out of commission due to injury.

But Neuer was rushed back for his country’s ill-fated World Cup campaign and has since been Low’s undisputed No.1 pick.

That is something which has frustrated Ter Stegen, and he has admitted his unhappiness with the current situation.

"It is not easy to find an explanation as I am giving the best account of myself in each game to make the decision more difficult," Ter Stegen said.

"I am trying [to become first-choice] anyway. But this trip with the national team has been a tough blow for me.”

It comes after a declaration earlier this week where he declared: "It drives me a bit mad. You give the best of yourself and you aren't where you want to be.

"I have established my priorities. I want to be successful and the big objective I have is to be the first choice keeper for my country."

Germany meet Estonia and Argentina next month, and Ter Stegen is expected to be called upon in the friendly against the South Americans.

However, he is putting pressure on Low to find a solution and at least offer some act of appeasement before next summer’s European Championship finals.

His comments also come at a time where Neuer had explained he will continue playing for his country for as long as he is needed.
