Barcelona 'give up' on Bernardo Silva pursuit and more Man City transfer rumours

Barcelona have brought the curtain down on their quest to sign Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva, just days ahead of the transfer window closing.

That is according to a report by Spanish outlet Sport, who claim that Barcelona have decided to 'give up' on pursuing the Portuguese international due to City's reluctance to sell him. The former Monaco man has been heavily linked with a move to the Camp Nou throughout the summer and City manager Pep Guardiola has often reiterated just how important he is to his plans.

Barcelona, despite being put off by City's refusal to sell, also believe that there is not enough time left in the window to try and get a deal over the line. The Spanish giants have added a whole host of new faces to their squad this summer and have faced difficulties in registering them.

Bernardo, who joined City in 2017, has made an encouraging start to the campaign, scoring two goals and grabbing one assist in just four Premier League appearances. His most recent strike inspired City's come-from-behind 4-2 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Meanwhile PSV Eindhoven and Belgian heavyweights Club Brugge are interested in signing City youngster Adedire Mebude. That is according to a report by The Athletic, who claim that an unnamed Premier League club has also expressed an interest in the winger.

It is claimed that the two aforementioned European outfits and Premier League club have each made 'enquires' into the prospect of signing Mebude either on loan or a permanent deal.

The report also states that City are having conversations with the clubs interested and are looking to insert a buy-back clause in any deal that could see the youngster leave on a permanent basis. The 18-year-old, who is a Scotland Under-19 international, has made a strong start to life for City's Under-21s this season, scoring three goals in four Premier League 2 appearances.

Mebude has stepped his progression up a level this season, joining the Under-21s squad, after excelling for the Under-18s last season. He netted 11 goals and grabbed a very impressive 18 assists in just 20 Under-18 Premier League appearances.
