LaLiga champions Barcelona will be looking to overcome their Champions League demons and win the biggest prize in European club football next season.
While Barca dominated the title race to retain their Spanish crown, the campaign is considered a relative disappointment by many Blaugrana fans following their catastrophic Champions League exit.
Leading Liverpool 3-0 after a semi-final leg canter at Camp Nou, Barca proceeded to lose 4-0 at Anfield to exit the competition in humiliating fashion - an all-too familiar outcome after their capitulation to AS Roma the previous year.
Although Messi was at his brilliant best last term, time is running out for the Barca legend - who will be 32 by the time the new season starts - to lift the European Cup once again.
Ernesto Valverde looks set to keep his job despite also losing the Copa del Rey final to Valencia, but will surely not last beyond next summer unless he delivers a Champions League triumph for the Catalan giants.
