Barcelona fan starts petition to get Sadio Mane banned 'for slapping Arturo Vidal'

A Barcelona supporter has responded to a petition trying to get Lionel Messi banned for the second leg of their Champions League semi-final- by making one of his own.

The initial petition, started by a Liverpool fan, was headlined 'Get Messi a retrospective ban for clearly punching Fabinho in the head', and it reached over 10,000 signatures from supporters unhappy at Messi's conduct before his sensational free-kick which made it 3-0.

Irate fans were angered by the five-time Ballon D'Or winner, with the creator writing: “So basically Messi gets a freekick for punching Fabinho in the head and scores it, I feel like this needs to be looked at by UEFA.”

Virgil van Dijk reveals truth behind those Lionel Messi's 'too good' quotes

But a Barcelona fan has hit back by pointing to Sadio Mane's less than exemplary behaviour in the match.

Mehrullah Baloch started a petition on change.org named 'Ban Sadio Mane for slapping Vidal.'

He added: "Sadio Mane should get a ban for the second leg of semi-finals as he slapped Arturo Vidal for no reason!"

The petition has not quite reached the heights of the one for Messi, reaching just under 2,000 signatures.

It is highly unlikely that UEFA will take action over either player before the second leg, but it could be a fiery affair if the first leg is anything to go by.

Jose Mourinho makes big Liverpool call as he predicts Champions League's semis

There were a number of flash points throughout the match and Liverpool also seemed frustrated by Barcelona players allegedly diving and feigning injury during the encounter.

Reds fans were also angered by their ex-player Luis Suarez celebrating his goal, and it will be interesting to see what kind of reception the Uruguayan receives on his return to Anfield.

Liverpool are still in the hunt for a domestic and European double, but they now face an uphill task in both competitions with a 3-0 deficit to overturn in the Champions League and with the team a point behind Manchester City with just two games to play in the race for the title.
