Barcelona desperate to sell Philippe Coutinho before shelling out millions to Liverpool

Barcelona are desperate to shift Philippe Coutinho off their books as soon as possible to avoid paying Liverpool further millions in transfer money.

The Brazilian has made 12 appearances for La Liga giants so far this term, scoring three, after returning from a season-long loan from Bayern Munich.

Coutinho left Liverpool in the 2018 January transfer window for a record £142million but has failed to live up to the Nou Camp's expectations.

His poor form saw him shipped out to the Bundesliga after just one season in Barcelona. But despite making 38 appearances, scoring 11 goals and helping Bayern Munich win the treble, the Barcelona hierarchy are still not convinced.

And according to SPORT, there is pressure on Barcelona to make a sale as soon as possible to avoid shelling out further millions to Liverpool.

Coutinho's contract states that if he makes 100 appearances for Barcelona they must pay Liverpool €20m (£18.2m). He is currently on 88.

For an already expensive player it would be yet another financial blow to Barcelona should they have to put their hands in their pockets.

Ronaldo Koeman is keen on using the 28-year-old this season but Barcelona chiefs are desperate to avoid paying the extra fee.

As such, with the January transfer window fast approaching, Barca may have to accept a cut-price fee to avoid paying yet further money to Liverpool.

Klopp's side haven't looked back since the sale, winning both the Champions League and Premier League.
