Barcelona defender Moussa Wague apologises for striking fan after 'numerous racist insults'

Barcelona defender Moussa Wague has apologised in the wake of being sent off for confronting a fan after "numerous racist insults" were hurled his way.

The Senegal international is being considered a new signing for Barca after being registered for their first team this month, but has been getting up to match sharpness with Barcelona B.

Wague, 20, was in action for the Barca second team over the weekend away at SD Ejea when he went to retrieve a ball from the crowd and ended up striking a home supporter in the face.

While the talented full-back took to Instagram on Monday to offer his apologies to fans of Ejea, as many onlookers were horrified by the racist abuse that Wague endured for much of the game.

"I want to express my sincere apologies to SD Ejea and the fan of that club for my conduct during the game yesterday. In a moment of anger, with the result going against us, I did not behave correctly and I acknowledge that and want to reiterate my apologies.

"I want to denounce also that my action, attempting to get the ball back from a fan to take a throw-in, arrived after being the object of numerous and reiterated racist insults and songs that should not be tolerated ever in a football stadium."

Barcelona have been curiously quiet on the Wague incident, only breaking their silence to draw attention to the full-back's apology rather than him being racially abused.

Wague is expected to be added to Barca's Champions League squad this month.
