Barcelona confirm Philippe Coutinho transfer and it shows how good a deal Liverpool got

Former Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho has agreed terms to join Bayern Munich on loan from Barcelona.

The German giants will pay all of his wages and an €8.5million loan fee for the season.

The deal also includes an option for Bayern to buy Coutinho for a set price of €120m euros (around £110million) next year.

In a statement on the club's official website, Barca added: "FC Barcelona would like to thank to publicly thank Philippe Coutinho for his commitment and dedication wishes him all the best in this new stage of his career."

Liverpool sold Coutinho to Barcelona in January 2018 for a deal that in total amounted to around £142m.

It is understood the Reds have already received €155m and are owed another €5m.

Barca are therefore set to take a significant hit on their outlay to Liverpool should Coutinho move for the agreed price next summer.

It caps a after his switch from Merseyside.

While he has collected a couple of La Liga titles and a Copa del Rey in that time, he has failed to truly establish himself at Barcelona.

His return of 11 goals in 54 appearances last term was below par given the expectations his huge price tag demanded.

Earlier this week, Barca boss Ernesto Valverde indicated that Coutinho's desire to leave  had been clear for a while.

He said: "It is a situation that last season when the league ended the player had it in his head.

"This [the Bayern move] has come up, he has accepted and hopefully he is lucky."
