Barcelona confirm Philippe Coutinho move to Aston Villa

Aston Villa have confirmed that former Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho has returned to the Premier League, following his move from Barcelona.

The 29-year-old has signed a six-month loan deal at Villa park, where he will play under his old Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard.

Coutinho left the Reds to join Barcelona in a £142m deal in January 2018 but has failed to rediscover his best form during his time in Spain.

The Brazil international joined the Reds from Inter Milan in January 2013, going on to make 201 appearances for Liverpool and becoming a talismanic figure during his time at the club.

Villa boss Gerrard played with Coutinho for two-and-a-half years at Anfield and described him as being a “wonderful footballer” in his most recent press conference.

The move means Liverpool are set to be reunited with both Coutinho and Gerrard when the Reds travel to Villa on April 16.
