Barcelona bound Frenkie de Jong asked about Matthijs de Ligt future amid Manchester United speculation

Frenkie De Jong says he will have no influence on the future of Ajax teammate Matthijs de Ligt amid Manchester United's pursuit of the centre-back.

De Ligt, 19, captained Ajax to the semi-final of the Champions League last season and is set to leave the club this summer, with United, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain all keen on a move.

Ajax are set to command a fee north of £75million for De Ligt, who is represented by Paul Pogba's agent, Mino Raiola.

De Ligt is set to make a decision on his future after the UEFA Nations League, the final for which will see the Netherlands face hosts Portugal on Sunday.

De Jong, who impressed in midfield for the Netherlands against England on Thursday night, agreed a deal with Barcelona in January that will see him ply his trade at the Camp Nou next season.

And while the 22-year-old says he would like to see De Ligt join him in La Liga, he insists he will support whichever decision his teammate makes.

"Of course we have spoken about his future, but it’s something which he must decide with his family," De Jong told reporters. "What I cannot do is influence his decision. He will have to work out what he wants with those close to him in the coming days.

"He knows what I would like. I hope that he comes to Barcelona with me, I hope that’s what happens."
