Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman issues update on Ousmane Dembele future amid Manchester United transfer links

Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman has provided an update on the future of Ousmane Dembele.

The Reds have no intention of signing the 23-year-old on a permanent deal this summer but could make a loan move for the Barcelona forward.

United are expected to make a last-ditch move for long-time transfer target Jadon Sancho before the summer deadline but Dembele could be an alternative.

Barcelona have denied they are in talks with United but the Spanish giants may be forced to offload the player due to their financial situation.

Koeman, meanwhile, has now offered up the latest on Dembele's future by explaining that the ball is firmly in the court of the Frenchman.

"Dembele is a Barcelona player, [his future] depends on what he thinks. I've not spoken clearly with him about it. We will see, two days left," Koeman said, per Goal.com.

"We have a lot of competition in attack. Ansu [Fati] started the first two games ahead of him. If a player's not happy, they can speak to me. And Ousmane's not said anything to me. If he stays, I'm counting on him and he will get chances to play."

Barcelona sporting director Ramon Planes has insisted that there have been no talks with United yet in regards to Dembele's future.

"First of all, no negotiations with Manchester United at the moment," he said. "Completely deny that. He's a player we count on, we know his potential. We hope this year the team sees the best of him."
