Barcelona boss Quique Setien wants Napoli tie played at Camp Nou as he bemoans new Champions League format

Barcelona coach Quique Setien believes the new Champions League format is worse for the Catalan club, but also for everyone else.

Uefa announced on Wednesday that due to the long delay and current situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final of Europe's elite club competition will take place in one-off ties in Lisbon over a 12-day period in August.

"I think it's worse for Barca and for everyone," Setien said in an online press conference on Thursday.

"With two games, you can recover from an 'accident'. Now, it's a gamble. We would all like to play over two games, but the circumstances are what they are."

Barca are not yet through to the last eight, having drawn 1-1 away to Napoli in the first leg of the teams' last-16 tie in February.

It has not been decided yet whether the return will be played at Camp Nou or at a neutral venue in Portugal.

"What I hope is that we play Napoli here," Setien said. "It would be different to playing at a neutral venue and behind closed doors."
