Barcelona boss provides Philippe Coutinho and Neymar deadline day transfer update

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde admits he is unsure what will happen with Philippe Coutinho and Neymar on transfer deadline day.

The Nou Camp giants have been linked with a stunning move to bring back Neymar as he pushes for a move from Paris Saint-Germain, although reports from Spain claim Real Madrid are launching a spectacular bid.

Coutinho, meanwhile, could be on his way out of La Liga with a host of Premier League clubs reportedly keen to take him on loan.

After watching his side beat Napoli in their latest pre-season friendly on Wednesday night, Valverde offered an update on both Neymar and Coutinho.

It is Coutinho's situation which is more pressing with English clubs having until just 5pm today (Thursday) to sign new players before the start of the Premier League season whilst Spanish clubs will still be able to make signings until September 2 to make signings.

But Valverde hinted Coutinho could be set to stay put by indicating he could feature on Saturday when they take on Napoli for a second time.

Valverde said: “We do not know what is going to happen with Coutinho, but we have the same plan as with Vidal and Arthur, who will be entering little by little, to see if Saturday can have minutes.

"He is a player of ours who has helped us a lot and we hope he will continue to do so, we don't have to think otherwise.

"The last time in this stadium I had to answer many questions about Neymar and now, again.

"We do not know what will happen. He is with another team and we don't talk about players from other teams. Madrid? One day is one thing and tomorrow will be another."
