Barcelona being handed LaLiga title would be unfair... Real Madrid were better, claims Thibaut Courtois

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois believes it would be unfair to hand Barcelona the title in LaLiga – because Los Blancos were the better team.

LaLiga was suspended after 27 rounds of matches due to the coronavirus outbreak with Barca two points ahead of Real at the top of the table, despite Madrid having won El Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu on March 1.

"We are just two points behind Barcelona and we could be champions, so it would be bad luck if the season is cancelled," Courtois told Belgian television network RTBF.

"If it were decided in Spain that Barcelona is the champion, it wouldn't seem fair to me.

"We drew one match with them (at Camp Nou in December) and we beat them in the other.

"We showed we are a better team than them. We are two points below them, but I wouldn't agree with that measure."

Courtois added that he would understand if Liverpool were crowned champions in the Premier League because of their big points advantage at the top, but said: "I want to finish the season.

"There are 11 games left and it's very soon to decide the champion."
