Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele is set to be sidelined for five weeks with a hamstring injury, the Catalan club have revealed.

The French forward, who played the 90 minutes in Friday’s 1-0 defeat to Athletic Club at San Mames, is the second casualty from that match after Luis Suarez went off with a calf problem in Bilbao.

“A medical examination on Ousmane Dembele has diagnosed a strain of his left hamstring,” Barca said on their website on Monday evening.

“The Frenchman is set to be out for approximately five weeks as a result.”

With Barcelona having sold Malcom this summer and allowed Philippe Coutinho to move on loan to Bayern Munich on Monday, their attacking options are now limited for Sunday’s home match against Betis at Camp Nou.

Suarez will also miss that match, but Lionel Messi is expected to be back from a calf problem which saw him miss the league opener on Friday.

If Dembele is out for five weeks, he could miss Barca’s next six La Liga games and possibly their first two Champions League group games as well.
