Barcelona agree £25m deal for centre-back linked with Arsenal and Man United

Barcelona have agreed a deal to sell defender Jean-Claude Todibo to Schalke.

The 20-year-old has been linked previously with both Manchester United and Arsenal, but has sealed a move to the Bundesliga side on an initial loan worth €1.5million (£1.3m).

The German side then have an option to buy the centre-back for €25m + €5m in add-ons (£21.4m + £4.3m).

Barcelona have also included a buy-back option in the deal that means they will be able to take the defender back to Camp Nou in future for €50m + €10m in add-ons (£43m + £8.6m).

Arsenal boss Arteta calls on players to fill Aubameyang’s shoes

Arsenal were strongly linked with a move for the defender in the summer, but instead completed a deal for Saint-Etienne centre-back William Saliba.

In the build up to the January window, however, the Gunners have been linked again after a serious injury to Calum Chambers has left them short of cover at centre-back.

Todibo said that the club's current model played a key role in deciding where he would move.

"The club's management convinced me of their project," he told their official website.

"Seeking success with young players. That's why I chose to join FC Schalke 04."

Arsenal have also been linked with moves for the likes of Dayot Upamecano and Jerome Boateng.
