Barcelona have announced that they will no longer be playing their La Liga fixture against Girona in Miami after a change of heart over the proposed North American game for early next year.

Both Barca and Girona had agreed to the switch from Montilivi to Miami after La Liga unveiled plans back in August for one high-profile fixture per season to be played overseas.

However, the Spanish champions released a statement on Monday in which they have said they are no longer willing to travel to Miami for the game, which is scheduled for the end of next month.

“Barcelona’s disposition to playing in Miami is no longer in effect,” the Blaugrana said in a statement, adding that an agreement has not been satisfactorily reached on how the money will be shared out.

“FC Barcelona was and is willing to move to Miami to play a league game, and accepted that the benefits were shared out between all the clubs of the first and second division, following the same criterion of distribution as in the television rights," it explained.

"But it considers that until an agreement is reached between all the agents involved, this project will not be able to prosper.”

The Catalan club released their statement after a board meeting on Monday. Girona, meanwhile, have yet to comment.
