Barcelona 3-0 Man Utd (4-0 agg) player ratings as Lionel Messi puts on clinic in Nou Camp

Lionel Messi reaffirmed his reputation as the best player to ever kick a football with a stupendous display in the Nou Camp as Barcelona saw off Manchester United in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Taking a 1-0 lead into the second leg, Messi doubled that advantage with a pearler, curling home from the edge of the area.

His second was less impressive, a tame shot sneaking under David De Gea to end the tie as a contest.

But there was still time for Philippe Coutinho to silence his doubters with a screamer past De Gea to make it 4-0 on aggregate.

Here's the player ratings from the Nou Camp...

Barcelona

Marc-Andre ter Stegen 7

Survived some early scares to look calm and composed. Strong.

Sergi Roberto 7

Will be still wondering how he did not scored but for de Gea’s block.

Gerard Pique 7

Getting better with age. If they are to win the trophy, he will play a big part.

Clement Lenglet 6

Looked uncomfortable with United’s early movement and pace.

Jordi Alba 8

Fantastic overlapping runs, wonderful asset from left back. Terrific.

Ivan Rakitic 7

Keeps it all ticking over nicely, shows nice moments of quality.

Sergio Busquets 7

Perhaps not the player he was, but still provides a brilliant shield.

Arthur 7

Lovely passing and vision, keeps it simple but stats always good.

Philippe Coutinho 8

Blimey, if this is a player who is under-achieving... Scored a wonder goal.

Lionel Messi 9

MotM. Every time you watch him should be regarded as a privilege.

Luis Suarez 7

The tormentor in attack, set up a potential Liverpool reunion.

Subs

Semedo, for Roberto, 71 mins, 6, Vidal, for Arthur, 75 mins, 6, Dembele, for Coutinho, 81 mins.

Manchester United

David de Gea 5

What a howler. And not even the world’s best keeper can stop Messi.

Victor Lindelof 6

The surprise choice at right in a patched-up United defence. Struggled.

Chris Smalling 6

Tried hard, stuck to his task but United’s defence given the runaround.

Phil Jones 5

Given a horrible night by Messi, turned inside and out. Could not handle it.

Ashley Young 4

These games with Barcelona might just signal the end of his United career.

Scott McTominay 6

Such a willing and competitive force in the first leg, fell short this time.

Fred 4

Just not good enough for United. Not even close. Awful display.

Paul Pogba 4

Playing like a player who wants to leave. Really poor. Let team down.

Jesse Lingard 6

Has yet to recapture his best form since returning from injury.

Anthony Martial 6

Good early on, cutting in from the left but got lost as game wore on.

Marcus Rashford 7

Looked the one United player ready to carry a threat to Barcelona.

Subs

Sanchez, for Lingard, 80, Lukaku, for Rashford, 73 mins, 5, Dalot, for Martial, 65 mins, 6.
