Barça's Game of Thrones, NHL theatrics and a painful touchdown

1) Celebration of the week comes from the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Antonio Brown, who Phil Babbed himself with joy after this punt return against the Colts.

2) The Frank Worrell trophy has just got under way in Australia, with the West Indies likely to be on the end of a shellacking. It’s all a far cry from 1979-80 when the Windies claimed their first Test series victory on Australian soil.

3) Chilean linesman pulls a Rivaldo – and not in a good way. It’s been something of a bad week for ugly scenes in Chilean football. And it kicked off in rather a big way in the Kuwait Cup this week too.

4) Anthony Joshua fights Dillian Whyte in his 15th professional bout on Saturday. The first 13 were pretty impressive. And the 14th didn’t last long either.

5) It’s always interesting to hear referees when they’re wearing mics. Especially when they forget they’re wearing mics. Which is all the excuse we need to link to this: David Elleray wears a hidden mic for Millwall v Arsenal.

6) Anyone who has played a bit of Sunday league football will be familiar with pitches not much better than this.

Our favourites from last week’s blog

1) Barcelona’s handballers do Game of Thrones. Which is all well and good but isn’t exactly World Championship handball.

2) The Tampa Bay Rowdies complete the header bin challenge. Also using his head is Herman Koré but in rather more goading fashion.

3) Don’t try this at home. In fact, don’t even watch if you’re of a nervous disposition. And don’t try this either – leave the competitive woodchopping to the pros.

4) Brutal: the 10 fastest knockdowns in boxing. Beach: oodles of surf loveliness. Baize: Neil Robertson bags a 147 in the UK Championship final.

5) NHL referees don’t tolerate player embellishment quite as much as their football counterparts.

6) Also in US sport this week: Tennessee Titans have a rookie QB this year by the name of Marcus Mariota. He’s got some game. Devin Harris nails a “wild circus shot”, whatever that may be. And the Green Bay Packers star in the Miracle in Motown.
