Barbra Streisand has endorsed a new political ad attacking Donald Trump’s record on LGBT+ rights – which uses her iconic 1979 duet with Donna Summer “No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)”.
The clip was released by the progressive PAC Meidas Touch in partnership with Vote Proud, an initiative that aims to mobilise LGBT+ voters.
Bruce Roberts, one of the songwriters behind “Enough is Enough”, co-founded the movement.
Sharon Stone, Elton John, David Furnish, Billy Porter, Andy Cohen, and Laverne Cox are all among the initiative’s co-chairs.
The ad, titled ”Vote Proud: Enough Is Enough”, emphasises the importance of the LGBT+ vote.
It highlights specific parts of Trump’s history when it comes to LGBT+ rights, such as the decision, in October 2018, to deny US visas to unmarried same-sex partners of UN diplomats.
The video includes an excerpt of an interview in which Ben Carson, Trump’s Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, asserts that he believes homosexuality is a choice.
It also touches on the Trump administration’s move to roll back nondiscrimination healthcare protections for women and transgender people in June this year.
Streisand appears at the end of the video, singing: “Enough is enough” and telling viewers: “Vote proud.”
