Barbra Streisand gives Disney stocks to George Floyd's daughter

Barbra Streisand has helped George Floyd’s daughter become a Disney shareholder at the age of six.

Gianna Floyd, whose father died in May after a police officer knelt on his neck for nine minutes, shared a picture to her Instagram account of herself smiling while holding the gift from the singer.

“Thank You @barbrastreisand for my package, I am now a Disney Stockholder thanks to you,” the six-year-old wrote, adding pictures of the stocks being opened and two of Streisand’s albums.

The comments were filled with love from George Floyd’s friends, with former NBA player Stephen Jackson writing: “The World is yours GiGi.”

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Kanye West had set up a college fund to cover future tuition for Gianna Floyd, as well as donating $2m (£1.58m) to charities associated with Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery.

Following George Floyd’s death on 25 May, Black Lives Matter protests have spread throughout the United States and across the world, with demonstrators calling for justice for Floyd and an end to police brutality against black people.

In Floyd’s home state of Minnesota, former police officer Derek Chauvin has been charged with second degree unintentional murder for his involvement in Floyd’s death.

Meanwhile, the Minneapolis council has additionally pledged to “dismantle” the city's police department.
