Barbers in Swansea ordered to close for breaching Covid regulations

A Swansea business has been ordered to close - albeit temporarily - after failing to comply with Covid regulations.

City Barbers, on Dillwyn Street in the city centre, was issued with a closure notice yesterday, Wednesday, May 12, following a visit by council enforcement officers.

Officials said they discovered staff at the business were not wearing personal protective equipment, and no visors were being worn while attending to customers.

The premises were also not adequately ventilated, with no windows or doors open, and high contact surfaces such as chairs were not being cleaned regularly.

In addition, there was no track and trace system in place, with no entries made in its client book.

Track and trace is required in order to identify and isolate contacts of people who test positive for Covid.

The business has been given until Friday, May 14, afternoon to implement the protective measures, or else face prosecution.

It is the first business in Swansea to have been issued with a closure notice for breaching coronavirus guidelines since lockdown measures began to ease last month.

Before that, the last similar orders in the city were back in July, when officers issued partial closure notices to Tesco for its stores in Fforestfach, Pontarddulais and in Swansea city centre, after officers visited and found them to be in breach by selling ‘non-essential’ items.
