Barber shop hit with £1,000 fine after ignoring lockdown rules

A barber shop was hit with a £1,000 for ignoring the rules during the second lockdown to affect England this year.

Police have issued a warning to businesses in Skelmersdale who are failing to abide by the latest coronavirus lockdown regulations.

The force said they were made aware that a number of non-essential businesses were still open.

Lancashire Police confirmed that as a result of breaking the rules they issued the owner of a barber shop with a £1,000 fine.

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said: “Having had a number of concerns raised over recent days regarding certain non-essential businesses failing to comply with COVID-19 Lockdown regulations we have been working in partnership with WLBC (West Lancashire Borough Council) to visit owners to Engage, Encourage, Explain and today Enforce the legislation.

“We are aware of a number of social media posts in relation to one particular barbers shop in Skelmersdale.

“Today, as a result of the owner failing to abide by the notices served by WLBC, the owner has been issued with a £1,000 fixed penalty notice. Stay safe.”
