Barbara Windsor's husband admits she can't remember where she lives as dementia takes hold

Barbara Windsor's husband Scott Mitchell has revealed she can't remember where they live anymore - as her Alzheimer's gets worse.

Scott revealed Barbara was suffering from the condition last year , to explain why she had withdrawn from public life.

Scott is running the London marathon this year with some of Barbara's co-stars to raise awareness and money for dementia charities.

Today he appeared on Loose Women to update them on his running progress - but he also made some candid admissions about Barbara's deteriorating condition.

He said: "She's watching today and she knows I'm going to talk about this, she gets comfort from the fact it helps people.

"When I was on in October we talked about her moments of confusion, well that has got worse, we now have that every single night.

"From 5pm, as it gets darker she becomes more confused - they call it sundowning.

"It's a loop from 5pm onwards, she will constantly ask me the same questions about the house.

"Asking me when we're going home, when we're leaving, why we're here - she doesn't know that it's our home."

Barbara now has 24 hour care, with carers coming in to help Scott.

He said: "I have carers in now, I felt really bad, Barbara said why do i want people who i don't know in the house

"She's fiercely independent, but i have to remind her it's for her own safety when she has her forgetful moments.

"She calls them her blackouts, sometimes we'll be sat there and she'll say I've got one of those blackouts.

"My heart goes out to anyone who is living with someone with this, it's the...you're just powerless."

Despite Barbara's problems Scott is hoping that she will be at the marathon finishing line - cheering him on.

He said: "She's determined to do that - her face at the end will get me through."
