Barbara Windsor’s grieving hubby has spoken movingly about the national treasure’s funeral.
Celebrity pals joined Scott Mitchell to bid farewell to the EastEnders and Carry On legend.
And there were tears of laughter as well as sadness as Barbara, who died last month aged 83, was laid to rest on Friday.
Yesterday, Scott, 59, spoke about the funeral to the Sunday People.
He said: “It was heartbreaking but intimate, a lovely send-off.”
Mourners at Golders Green Crematorium in North London were limited to 30 due to Covid-19.
But those paying their respects to Babs, who had battled Alzheimer’s, included David Walliams, Matt Lucas, Christopher Biggins, Paul O’Grady and Ross Kemp.
A floral arrangement spelled “Saucy” in the hearse, the order of service used an iconic image from 1969 hit Carry On Camping and there was a pub sign for “The Queen Peggy”.
In a touching tribute, ex-EastEnder Kemp, 56, who played Babs’ screen son Grant, said: “She was a true star that burned brighter and longer than many of her contemporaries.
“A night at the theatre with Barbara could end up with an impromptu knees-up, including songs and a tap dance.
"She was a star with incredible energy. Barbara, what a life you had. The nation loved you, we loved you. And we all will miss you very much.”
Biggins, 72, told the Sunday People yesterday: “It was a lovely occasion. It was a room filled with love. There were tears – but lots of laughter as well. That’s how we want to remember her.
"She had an extraordinary laugh.
"People loved laughing with her. Can you imagine if we’d been able to celebrate with the public? They’d have lined the streets to say goodbye to her.
“Scott’s a saint. He gave Barbara the love she needed and wanted so much, and made the end of her life so special.
"When the coffin slipped away, they played Barbara singing Sparrows Can’t Sing. It was so emotional and Scott broke down then.
“When the coffin came in, it was covered in the most beautiful flowers. She loved orchids. Elton John sent her a huge display of orchids.”
