Barbara Windsor gave Rylan Clark-Neal clever tip about greeting people in showbiz

Rylan Clark-Neal, 32, has revealed his best career advice was given to him by EastEnders legend Barbara Windsor, as he celebrates ten years since he first appeared on our screens.

Speaking to Lorraine Kelly, Rylan explained Barbara, who played Peggy Mitchell and died in 2020, told him to always say "nice to see you" instead of "nice to meet you", in case you've already met the person before and risk offending them.

He said: "I was lucky enough to meet Barbara back in X-Factor days. She came on the show and she was lovely, and we all said hello to her and that was that.

"Then about six months later I was in a department store I just wanted to buy some underwear, really mundane!

"And I felt a little pull on the back of my jumper and I turned round and looked down and it was Barbara. She was like, 'Hello darling,' and I said, 'Hello Barbara, how are you?'

"And she was like, 'Scott is over there,' her lovely husband, and I went, 'Hello, Scott. Lovely to meet you.' And she went, 'No, you met him on ' X Factor ', he was with me that day.'

"I said, 'Oh, Scott. I'm so sorry, I'm all over the place.' And she said to me there and then, 'Never nice to meet you, always nice to see you, because you've probably met them before.'

"I tell you what – I think that's the reason I've been working for ten years. That has got me out of a load of scrapes, let me tell you!"

"She knew how to do it! That is very good advice, I love that!" replied Lorraine.

Lorraine brought up Rylan's illustrious showbiz career, which has seen him present Supermarket Sweep, The Xtra Factor, a BBC Radio 2 show and Ready Steady Cook, as well as winning Celebrity Big Brother.

It's crazy, my X-Factor anniversary is ten years next year, but it's ten years since i was on another show previous to that, and it's just ridiculous.

"Let's be honest, I'm an X-Factor reject, I should've been forgotten about in 2013, but somehow, someone was looking down on me and I was very, very lucky."

* Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV at 9am
