Barbara Windsor beams during rare public appearance after Alzheimer's diagnosis

Barbara Windsor made a rare public appearance today to watch the Only Fools and Horses Musical in London's West End.

The 81-year-old, who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, saw the matinee performance of the show before meeting the cast afterwards with husband Scott Mitchell.

Former EastEnder Barbara was all smiles one her day out and said: “The show was wonderful. It’s the kind of show I really love and I love Del Boy.

“It's the best entertainment I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying in ages.

“I felt such a warmth from the audience. I would give it five stars!”

Barbara is now being looked after at her London home by Scott and carers round the clock as she struggles with memory loss.

Barbara's husband Scott and a string of EastEnders stars are also preparing to run the London Marathon to raise funds for the Dementia Revolution Campaign.

The team want to raise £100,000 for vital research to help fight the disease and find a cure.

Scott hopes that Barbara will be well enough to be waiting for him and the team at the finish line.

Speaking on Loose Women last week, he said: “That's the dream. Everything is being put in place for her to be there. I know what she’s like, she will be determined to be there.

“For me personally, when I want to cry and my legs are hurting and want to stop, the vision of her at the other end having a go at me for not turning up.”

The Only Fools musical has been running at the Theatre Royal Haymarket since February. Amongst the cast are Tom Bennett as the lovable rogue Del Boy Trotter, Ryan Hutton as his hapless brother Rodney and Paul Whitehouse as the charming Grandad.

The musical was the final project writer and show creator John Sullivan was working on before his untimely death in 2011.
