Barbara Daley left 'in tears' following city centre salon closure

Barbara Daley announced earlier this week that her popular Liverpool salon is closing for good next month.

The award-winning city centre salon, which shares Barbara’s name, is situated at Hardman Yard, a part of Hope Street Hotel.

Barbara announced the news of the salon’s closure on Instagram and has now revealed the reason behind the news that has come as a shock to many.

Speaking to the ECHO, Barbara said: “Unfortunately our lease at Hardman Yard has ended. We always knew our landlords had plans to develop the location from the beginning and they did offer us alternative locations, but we loved the space in the yard so much that we were happy to take on the lease even though we knew we wouldn’t be able to renew it.

“Hardman Yard was different, as it was set in a garden with a lovely restaurant next door. It was a unique location and unlike any other salon anywhere else. It was beautifully designed and always had a great atmosphere.

“Summer in the salon was always wonderful, especially on a sunny Saturday afternoon. There would be a DJ playing in the garden outside and the salon would be full of people enjoying the unique atmosphere that was unlike anywhere else.”

Barbara has had many clients over the years who she has become close to. She explains: “I’ll miss the daily interaction with the clients and the transformations we would create. There's nothing like the buzz of a salon on a busy day. I’m very proud that each of my salons has had my personal stamp on them which made them stand out from the rest.

“It was hard to tell everyone we were closing. The last three years have flown by. Lots of our clients have been coming to the salon here and formerly in Northwestern Halls for years and have become more like friends. It’s hard to tell someone who you’ve known for so long that you won’t be available for much longer.”

Since announcing the news on social media, Barbara has received a lot of messages of support from clients and former employees. She said: “I was in tears when I read some of the lovely things people had written. I have always been passionate about hairdressing and loved every minute in the salon. I’ve always strived to be the best and offer our clients a personalised service that made them feel special.

"I think that over the years both clients and staff have come to appreciate that, and that’s why we have been so successful. I’m really proud that so many girls who have trained with us have gone on to have their own busy salons in the city.

“As for my future, one chapter ends so a new one begins. Who knows what’s next. I love hairdressing and I’m always open for a new challenge, so watch this space.”

The Barbara Daley Hardman Yard salon closes on March 19.
