Barbados is easing its quarantine rules but only for vaccinated travellers

Barbados is set to cut down quarantine times for vaccinated travellers to just two days maximum.

The Caribbean hotspot is changing its rules from May 8, which will allow those who are fully vaccinated against Covid (aka two doses of one of the approved jabs) to spend less time in self-isolation.

Vaccinated guests will also be allowed to move around their hotel "in accordance with the guidelines of that property" during their quarantine, which can last approximately one or two days.

However, there will still be some requirements. Travellers will need to show proof of a negative Covid test result taken within three days prior to travel, proof of a vaccine certificate, and agree to have a Covid PCR test done at the airport or their hotel on arrival.

Unvaccinated travellers will also need to show proof of a negative Covid test result taken within three days prior to travel. However, their quarantine in will be approximately five to seven days, and they won't be allowed to leave their room or suite for the duration. Those who haven't had the jab will be required to take a second PCR test on day five.

Regardless of their vaccine status, tourists will need to be staying at government-approved hotels or accommodation, and will be given specially designated transportation there from the airport.

We don't yet know if Barbados will be one of the destinations on the 'green list' for Brits, when non-essential foreign travel is once again allowed from the UK.

However, the Caribbean island is tipped to be one of the places that could feature, thanks to its low Covid case numbers, and its vaccine programme.

Last year when travel corridors were in place, Barbados was one of the destinations open to holidaymakers, so it could be that a similar scenario is in place when the green list is unveiled.

The UK government is expected to share another update on travel in early May, when it's hoped that it will confirm a restart date as well as the destinations that will be on the green list.
