Barack Obama reveals his mantra for a positive mindset in life

Former President of the USA and author, Barack Obama is an inspiration for many. In a recent interview, Obama, 61, revealed the secret to his positive mindset toward life.

When comedian Hasan Minhaj asked Obama if he ever feels dejected or low because of current issues like the climate crisis, anti-abortion laws, LGBTQ+ rights, and more. To this, Obama said, “I do try to maintain some perspective... Ask your parents or your grandparents whether this is the worst that they’ve seen. I’m pretty sure that between World War I, World War II, the Great Depression--- we can go through the list of moments that are significantly worse than this."

However, instead of focussing on the negatives, Obama said that he believes in having a “glass half full” mindset about life. This in turn helps him have a sense of gratitude towards life.

He further added that most people, including himself, have grown up in times which were more optimist and better than what they are today. And so, it may be hard for many of us to stay positive in life when things go wrong. “I grew up in this anomalous stretch of time in which, even though bad things were happening, for the most part, the trajectory of humanity was things were getting better...We were becoming less racist and less sexist and less homophobic… there was this enormous sense that many of the ills of humanity were behind us,” he added.

However, having a positive attitude towards life is a skill which can be developed by practice over time.
