When you do something as groundbreaking and noteworthy as Washington’s QB Alex Smith did on Sunday, returning to the NFL after 693 days due to an injury that seemed likely to end his career, it’s fair to say that the congratulations you receive from everyone start to run together.
However, one congratulation came to Smith on Monday afternoon that I’m sure he took notice of. Former President Barack Obama gave a quick shout out to Smith on Twitter, propping him up for his great courage in fighting back from the devastating injury and showing the strength and determination he had in making it back to the field to do what he loves to do.

The moment that he returned to the field at long last was probably one of the few that Smith will never forget, for as long as he lives. Getting congratulated by the former president is probably pretty high on that list as well.
