Obama lists favourite films of 2018 including Roma, Black Panther and The Death of Stalin

AP

Former president Barack Obama has continued his annual tradition of sharing his favourite films, books, and songs from the past, two years since he left the White House.

In a list first introduced during his presidency, Obama has posted some of his top picks for 2018, adding that compiling the list “gives me a moment to pause and reflect on the year through the books, movies, and music that I found most thought-provoking, inspiring, or just plain loved.”

“It also gives me a chance to highlight talented authors, artists, and storytellers -- some who are household names and others who you may not have heard of before,” he added.

When it came to his favourite films, the list included a wide variety of choices: Black Panther, Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman, Barry Jenkins’s If Beale Street Could Talk, and Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma are all awards favourites.

Meanwhile, Obama also included lesser known indie fare such as The Rider, Minding the Gap, and Leave No Trace.

British comedy The Death of Stalin, a political satire tracing the first chaotic days of a post-Stalin Russia, also made an appearance, alongside South Korea’s Burning and Japan’s Shoplifters

The list also included several striking directorial debuts, namely Bo Burnham’s Eighth Grade and Carlos López Estrada’s Blindspotting
