The Obamas have sent out their final family Christmas card from the White House, triggering an emotional response from supporters pleading with them not to leave.
This year’s card is a photo of Barack, Michelle, Malia and Sasha Obama from a state dinner honouring Canadian president Justin Trudeau in March which was the first state dinner the daughters, who are 15 and 18, attended.
The card was sent to friends, supporters and members of the media and paid for by the Democratic National Committee, reports People.
Inside, the message reads: “As our family reflects on our many happy years spent in the White House, we are grateful for the friends we’ve made, the joy we’ve shared and the gifts of kindness we’ve received,” and it is signed off by all members of the family including their dogs Bo and Sunny, who have previously been the stars of the annual holiday card.
On Twitter, the card served as a reminder to supporters that soon the family will vacate the White House leading the sentiments poured out:
The family will vacate on 20 January 2017 when Donald Trump will be inaugurated and become the 45th president of the United States.
