Bar owner reassures customers as listed Nottingham building goes on market

An historic listed building in the heart of Nottingham has been put up for sale. The four-storey property at Weekday Cross is home to The Blind Rabbit, a New York-style bar and restaurant, which opened last August.

However, The Blind Rabbit's owners reassured fans of the cocktails and burgers that it's going nowhere. The bar, which occupies the ground and first floors, has a ten-year lease so its future is safe no matter who takes over the prominent site overlooking the Weekday Cross landmark on the edge of the Lace Market.

Adam Pereira, a director of Fletchergate Industries, which owns The Blind Rabbit, along with other venues in the city including The Hockley Arts Club and Penny Lane, said: "It's absolutely secure. We are looking forward to finally getting some good weather to make use of that beautiful sun trap of an outside area we have."

The building is on the market for £820,000. The property dates back to 1875, when it was built as a warehouse and offices for William Cotton, a big name in Nottingham's lace industry.

More recently the site has seen a succession of restaurants come and go, including Spanish tapas bar La Tasca and Belgian beer and mussels haunt Belgo, which closed down during the pandemic. The second floor office has a long leasehold until September 2124 at a peppercorn rent.

An apartment on the third floor also has a long lease until June 2124. As a Grade II listed building, it means the property has a special historic or architectural interest which it is important to conserve. The property is up for sale on Rightmove.
