Bar 'opened in lockdown and let customers drink while not at tables'

A city centre venue could lose its licence after being accused of numerous breaches of lockdown rules.

Volume Lounge on Seel Street, formerly called Wild Cat, is a cocktail and Shisha bar based in Seel Street in the popular Ropewalks night spot.

Next week, the bar's owners Wild Cat Bar Ltd will be brought before Liverpool Council's Licensing Committee for a review after concerns were raised.

According to city council documents, the application for a review of the venue's licence was made after 'various breaches of covid restrictions' were witnessed.

The breaches, which are said to have occurred between December 3 2020 and May 26 2021 include the smoking of shisha, people drinking while not sat at tables, the bar itself being open during lockdown and a breach of a licence condition.

The bar's owners will be able to present their case at the meeting on Tuesday, where the committee will have a range of powers at their disposal.

This includes making changes to the licence conditions, removing a premises supervisor, suspending a licence for a up to three months - or in extreme cases, revoking a licence altogether.

In May, a restaurant in Liverpool city centre lost its licence after the owner was found to have breached lockdown restrictions at his restaurant just months after receiving a covid fine for a separate breach elsewhere.

Just under two weeks before, a pub on East Prescot Road managed to keep its right to sell booze despite a lockdown drinking session which degenerated into a brawl which saw the manager stamp on a taxi driver’s head.

The manager was immediately sacked and the pub’s owners managed to keep its licence.

The ECHO has have attempted to reach the bar for comment.
