Bar forced to close due to flooding caused by storm

A popular Nottingham bar has had to close its doors after water came through the ceiling.

The Barrel Drop in Hurts Yard was forced to close on Sunday, February 9.

Staff are working at clearing up the water after Storm Ciara hit the region.

The Met Office has put out an amber warning for the area.

Aimee Harbison, manager of the bar, said: "We have got water coming through the ceiling. There was enough that we can't open just to be safe.

"We have put buckets down and we are just mopping up.

"We will be back open when it is safe and dry. We hope to open tomorrow but we can't be sure."

The city and county has been battered by Storm Ciara.

In Nottingham city centre, Carrington Street and Queens Road were closed after debris came crashing down into the road from a nearby building site.

Trams were also halted after a tree fell down near the university campus, affecting the line between the Forest Recreation Ground and Old Market Square.

Shops on Exchange Walk were also forced to close after a chimney stack came crashing down. No one has been hurt in any of the incidents.

The fire service said it has been called out to "a high volume of calls" some of which are the result of the storm including flooding and fallen trees.
