A Bar Beach man wanted on an outstanding warrant over failure to appear in relation to charges of an earlier alleged incident, now faces fresh charges over allegedly threatening two surf lifesaving club members at Horseshoe Beach this week.
Christopher Redman appeared in court briefly via audio-visual link from custody on Friday, August 14, where judge formally refused bail over the alleged incident at Horseshoe Beach on Wednesday and revoked his earlier bail conditions stemming from earlier alleged offences in May.
The 40-year-old will remain in custody until he appears again on Thursday, August 20.
Police were called Horseshoe Beach about 5.15pm on Wednesday to look into reports two club members had been confronted in the car park by an armed man.
The members backed away and called for police a short time later, officers said in a statement at the weekend.
Redman was arrested a short time later in the vicinity over the outstanding warrant, and allegedly seized a knife at the scene for further examination.
Redman stands accused of a string of offences including stalking and intimidation, being in custody of a knife, and failure to appear in accordance with bail acknowledgement, property damage, drug possession and assaulting police.
Additional charges stemming from the alleged assault this week included being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence and intimidation with a knife.
The matter has been listed for mention in Newcastle Local Court on Thursday.
