Bao Brothers After Dark is closing - for good

Bao Brothers After Dark on Hunter Street in Newcastle is closing indefinitely.

Owners and brothers-in-law Nathan Martin and Dave Griffin will now focus their attention on Bao Brothers at The Corner, Charlestown Square.

They had this to say:

"It is with heavy hearts that we announce as of tomorrow, Thursday 19th March, we will be closing After Dark. As a company we need to do what's best for our employees, our businesses and the public and feel that this is the only solution for our current situation. Tomorrow evening will be our last service. If you'd like to join us for one last meal, please make a reservation.

This closure will occur indefinitely. We ask that as a community you continue to support local businesses as best you can in these uncertain times.

Bao Brothers Eatery at Charlestown Square will remain open as usual and we are taking every necessary precaution to ensure the safety and wellbeing of their customers and employees. Please also stay tuned on our social media pages as Bao in the Burbs will be back sooner than you think.

We want to thank every person that has dined with us in the past six months as well as our employees that work endlessly to ensure every experience at After Dark exceeds all customers' expectations. We love our community and hope that we can return stronger than ever."

Martin and Griffin started Bao Brothers in 2015 as a humble market stall, expanded the business to a portable food truck, took over Reserve's kitchen for a time and then, in 2017, opened a restaurant on Hunter Street serving authentic Taiwanese street food with a twist. It was an immediate hit and its funky decor and vibe raised the bar for inner-city eateries.

They then moved their Hunter Street restaurant upstairs, opening Bao Brothers After Dark. They wanted to bring something fresh and new to Newcastle; something that hadn't been done before. They certainly achieved that.

The last dinner service at After Dark will be tomorrow night (Thursday, March 19). Bookings are now being taken.
