A banned driver has been jailed after narrowly missing hitting pedestrians during a police chase in Leeds.
Lee Norton, 25, had a passenger on a motorbike when he led police on a chase through residential streets during frosty weather conditions.
The incident started on Throstle Road in Middleton at around 7.30pm on November 30 last year.
Prosecutor Howard Shaw said police officers were on patrol in a marked car when they noticed the defendant riding a motorcycle with a passenger.
Neither of them were wearing helmets and a licence plate was not visible.
Police indicated for Norton to stop but he sped off at more 30mph.
He was pursued through several residential streets.
Leeds Crown Court heard Norton mounted a pavement during a left turn, narrowly missing pedestrians.
The pair abandoned the bike and made off on foot.
Police found Norton hiding in the back garden of a house a short time later.
He was arrested and said: "That's okay, I wasn't even the rider."
Norton made no comment in his police interview.
Mr Shaw said Norton had been jailed and disqualified from driving in June last year over an offence of aggravated vehicle taking.
Norton, of Waincliffe Place, Beeston, Leeds, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving whilst disqualified.
He has 49 previous convictions for 91 offences, including for dishonesty offences and breaching court orders.
Shila Whitehead, mitigating, said her client had been in care as a child and has no potential role models in his life.
She said Norton wants to use his time in custody to decide what he wants to do with his life.
Norton was jailed for eight months and disqualified from driving for two years and four months.
