Banned driver caught behind the wheel of a car just 20 minutes after he had bought it

Two cars quickly added up to a lot of trouble for banned driver James Jordan.

He was caught at the wheel of a Ford on St Ann's Well Road on March 13, city magistrates heard.

Jordan, 18, told police officers that he had only owned it for four days.

That left him charged with driving while disqualified and having no insurance.

But he was spotted two months later driving along Annesley Road, Hucknall.

This time he was using a Volkswagen and he told police he had only owned it for 20 minutes.

The teenager's two driving trips were outlined by Ben Payne, prosecuting, who said he will have to pass an extended test if he wants to take to the roads legally.

Now he must obey a two-month curfew at his home in Sneinton Hermitage.

He must wear an electronic tag which will sound an alarm if he steps out between 9pm and 7am.

The magistrates extended his existing ban until November 15 next year. He must pay £85 prosecution costs and an identical figure as a government surcharge.

He was also ordered to carry out 120 hours community work. Jordan admitted driving while disqualified and without insurance on March 13 and again on May 4.

Derek St Delroy Brown, mitigating, said: "He is at a stage where rehabilitation would be more important than punishment.

"He has had to stand on his own two feet from a young age."

A probation report revealed Jordan has already attended "a safer driving standards course on a one-to-one basis at his home address".

Presiding magistrate Deborah White told Jordan: "If you drive again, it will be another driving while disqualified. You should not go down the same path."
