Banned drink driver caught in Balloch car park five times the limit

A drink driver got behind the wheel while disqualified and more than five times the limit.

Linsey Aitken was caught in the Co-op car park in Balloch on April 20.

The 52-year-old, of Gartocharn, appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week after previously admitting driving with 116 microgrammes of alcohol in her breath, exceeding the limit of 22.

She also pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and without insurance.

The court heard that police were contacted at 6.45pm in relation to somebody being under the influence in the car park.

Aitken was breathalysed, with her lawyer describing the reading as “extremely high”.

He said: “She was obviously driving while disqualified in this case. It is not lost on Ms Aitken that she has placed herself in a perilous position.

“There’s no doubt she and her husband recognise the serious issues that she has.

“Alcohol is a means of attempting to cope with her underlying issues.”

Sheriff Frances McCartney banned Aitken from driving for eight years but this will be reduced by 20 percent if she completes a drink driving rehabilitation course.

She was also given a community payback order with 135 hours and a restriction of liberty order, meaning she must stay in her home between 7pm and 7am each day for the next ten weeks.
