Bankwest says its services are returning to normal after a system glitch prevented people from accessing their money this morning.
A spokesman for Bankwest said the issue had affected internet banking, mobile banking, EFPTOS payments and some ATMs, as well as in-store banking.
He said staff had worked to rectify the problem as quickly as possible, and services were gradually returning.
A post on Bankwest's Facebook page said services including the Bankwest app, online banking, ATMs and EFTPOS were being closely monitored.
"Customer funds and data remain safe," it said.
"We're sorry for the inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience."
Bankwest said it was conducting maintenance on its online banking system overnight, but says the problem was a new glitch and not connected to that work.
Customers took to social media to express their frustration, with some describing the situation as "pathetic".
Phillip Kennedy tweeted, "This is pathetic that thousands of customers cant get $", while Com.ZooHellsing tweeted: "Care to tell me why I shouldn't change banks?"
Customers on Facebook were equally scathing.
Simon Smith posted: "Really???? My funds are safe???? Why can't I access them then???? What's happened to my pay?????
"... it's the kids at home who need money for school lunches etc that need it right now. I can't express enough how much I despise banks — earning billions from fractional reserve banking while treating us as though we should be thankful for them when in reality, without our money they are nothing."
