Banksy work to become part of street art museum in Port Talbot

The Port Talbot Banksy is set to become part of an international street art museum.

The Season's Greetings artwork, which appeared on a garage in December, will remain in Port Talbot for at least three years as it has been confirmed it will be relocated at Ty'r Orsaf in the town centre.

It will not only feature Banksy's famous Port Talbot piece, but also artwork from Swansea-based street artist Pure Evil and French graffiti artist Blek le Rat.

People have flocked from all over to see the artwork since it was unveiled earlier this year (www.adrianwhitephotography.co.uk)

Deputy minister for culture, sport and tourism confirm its relocation in a letter to Bethan Sayed AM.

In the letter it was stated: "Ty'r Orsaf within Port Talbot town centre has been identified as the preferred relocation site for the artwork.

"A request for financial support for relocation of the artwork has recently been received.

"My officials have issued a grant offer to John Brandler for the artwork's relocation to Ty'r Orsaf, subject to it remaining on public display.

"Following discussions between my officials and John Brandler, I am pleased to confirm the artwork will remain in Port Talbot for a minimum period of three years as opposed to the original two year commitment."

Street art in Llanelli has been covered with a screen because some people think it could be a Banksy

Baglan based company Andrew Scott Ltd will be appointed by John Brandler, who bought the artwork back in January, to relocate the artwork to its new home.

It is thought that this will be completed within five weeks and that the museum, called SAM (Street Art Museum), will be the first of its kind in the UK.

New owner of the Banksy, John Brandler (Jonathan Myers)

Mr Brandler told the BBC: "It's going to be an international museum of street art. I'm talking to a couple of other artists who are among the same level as Banksy.

"The aim is to get people off the motorway and into the town, spending money.

"Banksy gave this piece to Port Talbot so people who live here don't have to pay to go to see it.

"The idea is that tourists pay and then the money will be split between the museum, council and local charities."
