Banksy 'was secret headliner' at pub during paint festival

Legendary Bristolian street artist Banksy is rumoured to have been a "secret headliner" at a pub during a paint festival.

The anonymous graffitist is believed to have appeared at an event at Cheltenham Paint Festival on September 5.

A source claimed Banksy headlined a private, ticketed event at The Bottle of Sauce pub, more than five years since his last confirmed appearance in Gloucestershire.

Supporters of the festival were secretly invited to the event via email, after donating £10 through a website for Cheltenham Paint Festival, Gloucestershire Live reports.

The page said for a one-off donation, supporters would "receive an email on September 5, with the location and time of a top-secret free paint festival event that will be taking place that evening".

It added: "If you love the paint festival then this is a must-buy.

"It's so secret that we can't even tell you what is happening until you turn up."

Andy 'Dice' Davies, who organised this year's Cheltenham Paint Festival, said he "cannot confirm nor deny" Banksy's Thursday-night appearance.

But sources claimed a "new video" was shown on the night through the pub's projector, which hangs over the front door.

Banksy first made his name in the 1990s when he broke out onto Bristol's underground graffiti scene.
