Banksy reveals inspiring new homelessness mural on a busy city street

A new mural by street artist Banksy focuses on homelessness in Britain.

The mural, painted on a brick wall on Vyse Street in Birmingham, was posted to the artist's Instagram account on Monday.

The short clip shows a homeless man sipping a drink while sat on a bench alongside a busy city street.

As the man, identified as a rough sleeper named Ryan, settles down to sleep, the camera zooms out to reveal two reindeers spray painted onto the wall beside him.

They appear to be pulling the bench up into the star-filled sky.

The artist later updated the post with a comment reading: “God bless Birmingham.

“In the 20 minutes we filmed Ryan on this bench passers-by gave him a hot drink, two chocolate bars and a lighter - without him ever asking for anything.” #Banksy.”

The artwork has been shared by thousands on social media, with many commending the artist/activist for his social commentary.

One person tweeted: "Banksy nails it again. I don't know of anyone who has his gift for distilling major social issues down so powerfully."

Another said: "Banksy has once again summed up the nations mood."

A third person added: "Oh #Banksy , you genius."

The mural has been revealed just days before the 2019 General Election which has seen a number of party leaders commit to tackling homelessness and rough sleeping across Britain.
